SCHOLARSHIPS and DEADLINES:
Eugene Hanaka Scholarship Given to those students who distinguish themselves for incredible work ethic, selflessness and loyalty. DEADLINE April 5, 2009 Lawrence D. Bell Scholarship $1000 given to men and women who have excelled in academics, participated in extra-curricular activities, and exemplified outstanding leadership traits. Applicants must have maintained an 85% or above grade point average, have participated in extra-curricular activities and demonstrated outstanding leadership traits to qualify. DEADLINE: May 1, 2009 Nicholas Patterson Perpetual Fund Scholarship Applicants must choose a modern hero/person other than a relative or family member that you would seed to be like in the next three years. Applicants must also include a statement about how you would be affected if you were awarded a scholarship. $1000's to the winners! DEADLINE is MAY 15, 2009.
Buffalo Urban League Scholarship The awards will be based on character, academic achievement, financial need and/or community service. Scholarships range from $250-$4000!!! Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo Eligibility: Students must be permanent residents of the 8 counties of WNY who have been accepted for admission to any accredited college or university. They must be full-time students at the undergraduate level. The scholarships start at $1000 and some are larger! there are pamphlets in the SSC and you MUST apply online at WWW.CFGB.ORG. Dorothea Deitz Memorial Scholarships
For any FEMALE senior looking to pursue a career in PHYSICAL EDUCATION. Scholarships will be given in the amounts of $7500, $6500 and $5500.WWW.NYSAHPERD.ORG
Peter P. Tycz II Memorial Scholarship For a graduating senior who has a relative who is/was a veteran and is anticipating acceptance into an accredited university/college. Student must fill out entire application, write the accompanied essay and get a letter of recommendation. DEADLINE: MAY 1, 2009 WNY Association of School Nurses Memorial Scholarship
$500-1000 in Funds Available!! Requirements: Must be a graduate and accepted into an accredited BS School of Nursin in NY State. Must be a resident of Erie or Niagara County. All you have to do is list your school nurse, obtain a copy of your acceptance letter from your nursing school, two references and a 250-500 word personal statement on your goals and aspirations.
BigSun Scholarship The scholarship is designed to help young athletes succeed in their academic pursuits. This is an annual scholarship for $500 that can be awarded to any student athletes no matter what sport they participate in. DEADLINE: JUNE 27, 2009 www.bigsunathletics.com Daemen College Visual Arts Scholarship Two Students will be chosen and will receive a $5000 tuition award which is renewed annually. The competition is open to all area high school students and will be held on April 25, 2009. Work can be dropped off (portfolio) between 9 and 11am and students will then be able to meet faculty and tour Daemen College.
Amherst Federal Credit Union Scholarship Program
Amherst FCU members will be competing with high school seniors from credit unions cross New York State for a chance to win scholarships to either or 2 or 4 year accredited educational institutions. Students must be college-bound high school seniors at the time of application, attending college for the first time in the fall of 2009 and must also be a member of a participating credit union.

SAMMY 2009 (Scholar Athlete Milk Mustache of the Year Award Program)
This scholarship awards exceptional high school senior student athletes! Winners get $7500 towards college, an invitation for you and your parents to attend a SAMMY weekend at Disney World, and an opportunity to be in a Milk Mustache ad in USA TODAY! PDK Prospective Educator Scholarship Program
The Buffalo-South chapter of Phi Delta Kappa (PDK) is sponsoring one high school senior intending to major in education with a $500 scholarship. Two local applicants will be forwarded to PDK International for consideration of a $500 award!
Norman F. Locher Memorial Scholarship $1000 Students are highly involved in their community should check this one out. Special preference will be given to those students who assist in emergency services and are matriculating in the Emergency Services field of fire or EMS. Student must have a "C" average, be accepted in a 2 or 4 year college program and be a resident in an area served by a volunteer fire company. DEADLINE: MARCH 1st.
Zonta 2009 Scholarship
This Scholarship is for $1000 for students who have shown excellence in serving the community and the school in which they attend. Students need to obtain 2 letters of recommendation and write a short (2 pages, double-spaced) description of their life goals and how they will obtain them. DEADLINE: MARCH 31, 2009.
Civil Engineering/Land Surveying Scholarship $1000 for a student going into Land Surveying or Engineering. Student must provide a letter of recommendation from teacher or principal and submit a 200 (minimum) word essay stating why you think Civil Engineering or Land Surveying are important professions and why you would to enter the field. www.emengineers.com. The Engineering Society of Buffalo Scholarships 4 given by UB, 1 by ECC and 1 by NCCC. $250 per semester will be awarded to any student enrolling in any Engineering Science or Engineering Technology Curriculum. DEADLINE: JUNE 1st.

2009 Margaret Lombardi Scholarship Award $500 Award given to a Italian American Woman. Applicants must write a narrative on how the Italian American culture has influenced her life. The mother or father of the applicant must be of Italian descent. A high school transcript must be submitted along with a letter of recommendation. DEADLINE April 3, 2009. Will to Win Scholarship Award A total of $50,000 will be awarded to seniors with asthma. This award is geared for students going into the following fields; performing arts, visual arts, community service, athletics or science. Students must demonstrate excellence in the fields listed above, document a track record of achievements relevant to the fields above, hold a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and have received one award related to their entry category. DEADLINE: APRIL 30, 2009
Western New York Suburban Counselors' Consortium Scholarship Students applying must be a high school senior, plan to attend a 4-year college in NYS, plan to major in psychology or a counseling related field, have a grade point average of 85 or higher, and must take part in extracurricular activities; school and/or community service. Candidates must complete the application and submit it with an offical high school transcript, including senior grades no later than April 28, 2009, write an essay of no more than 500 words on your future career choice, and a letter of recommendation from the student's school counselor.
