Summer Programs
There are 2 FREE summer day camps available for middle school students that relate to Technology, Math, and Science. Please see Mrs. Balthasar in the Student Support Center for more information (836-7200 x8446).
Gateway to Engineering Camp www.ecc.edu/academics/hssummer.asp (716) 270-2826 For: students entering 7th, 8th of 9th grade in the Fall 2009 When: 7/13/09 - 7/17/09 (8:30-2:30) Where: Harkness Center 99 Aero Drive, Cheektowaga, NY 14225 This is a great way for your children to have the chance to explore an interest in science, math, and technology and to learn more about engineering careers.
BEAM (Buffalo-Area Engineering Awareness for Minorities) (716) 645-3066 For: limited to 20 students for each grade level (7th-11th grade) When: 7/6/09 - 7/31/09 (TBA) Where: at local colleges location varies by age area (7th and 8th are at Daemen College on Main street) We are looking for students with good grades especially in math and science and interest in learning about technical careers such as engineering, computer science or architecture. Students will attend classes Monday through Thursday on various college campuses depending on grade level. All programs include field trips every Friday and career speakers. All programs also include hands-on activities relating to engineering principles. Numbers are limited. We are looking for women and minorities but all students interested in a technical career will be considered. No cost to students. Application must be accompanied by the student’s latest report card. We will extend the date until all positions are filled with selected students. Programs begin July 6 and end July 31 except the post 11th grade at UB ends on August 6. Times vary depending on the location.
Middle School Summer Camp Registration is now being accepted for Erie 1 BOCES half-day and full-day Career Summer Camps from July 23-27 at the Harkness Career and Technical Center, 99 Aero Drive, Cheektowaga, and from July 30-August 3 at the Potter Career and Technical Center, 705 Potter Road, West Seneca. The Summer Camps foster an understanding of various occupational and technical career areas including: Auto Tech, Auto Collision Repair, Create a Gingerbread House, Engineering Design, Emergency Room Skills, Fabulous You (hairstyling, facials, nails), Fun with Digital Photography, Fun With Microsoft Publisher, Get Ready, Get Set, Lead (leadership workshop), Nanny 911, and Video Production. Cost is $95 for the half-day camp and $165 for the full-day camp. Space is limited so early registration is encouraged. The Student Support Center has applications. Speed Reading and Study Skills Programs For students entering 6th-12th grade. Three area locations: Canisius College, Williamsville, and West Seneca Learn how to save time, remember more, get better grades, score higher on tests, and enjoy reading more.
